There are some places that surprise you.
This beautiful July elopement took place at Minnewaska State Park Preserve in New York. At first glance, the Visitor Center might not seem like the place you'd choose for an intimate ceremony, but just behind the building was one of the most peaceful backdrops you could ask for.
The forecast called for rain all day, but the day took a turn for the better. Instead of heavy storms, we were greeted with rolling fog drifting and a few pockets of sunshine by the end. It was one of those days that reminds you rain is lucky on the big day, but no rain is even luckier.
If you're planning a Hudson Valley elopement, don't overlook Minnewaska State Park. It's an incredible location for couples who want breathtaking scenery without hiking miles into the wilderness. It was easily accessible to many, even elders, again, without a big hike. Whether you're exchanging vows with just the two of you or a handful of your closest family and friends, the park offers several options, near and far.
As a Hudson Valley elopement photographer, I know that some dream of dramatic overlooks, others want peaceful forests, waterfalls, or open fields. One of the best parts of photographing elopements is discovering places that aren't always the obvious choice but end up creating unforgettable memories, no matter where it may be.
One of my favorite things about elopements is how relaxed they feel. There's room to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and actually experience your wedding day. Instead of rushing from one event to the next, you can spend your day exploring, taking in the views, and creating photographs that truly reflect your relationship. This also is very helpful for myself. I tend to get just as wrapped up in the wedding day as everyone else, but the smaller intimate days lend me to bring out the artistry I so love and long for.
This is a reminder that you don't always need a famous venue or perfect weather. Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen in the places you'd least expect.
If you're dreaming of an intimate New York elopement surrounded by nature, Minnewaska State Park is a location that's absolutely worth considering. And if you're looking for a photographer who knows the Hudson Valley and loves documenting genuine moments in intimate landscapes, I'd love to help you plan a day that feels true to you.
